Maryland Filing Tips

Frequently Asked Questions – Business Filings in Maryland

The resident agent signature is required on the filing.  How do you sign our documents?

All the forms available you might need to file are available in your online account, pre-signed and pre-populated with our resident agent information.

Can I get confirmation of filing from the SDAT?

If you want confirmation, you will need to pay an extra $5 for a certified copy and the filing has to be submitted in duplicate. Even if you expedited the filing, it will take 8 weeks for you to receive the certified copy.

The best way is to fax file and pay the $50 expedite fee. The fax filing order sheet is available in your online account.

How can I contact the SDAT when they never answer the phone?

We have accumulated a variety of different phone numbers for the SDAT and they are in your online account. The SDAT never answers the phone. BUT, it appears that if a female leaves a voicemail they WILL return the phone call. The SDAT does NOT return phone messages left by a male voice. We don’t actually believe that anyone has a duty to actually answer their phone. We do have a bunch of random phone numbers, but they seem to be desk phones of random people that work there. We recommend having a female call a couple numbers and leave a voicemail and say a little prayer, or if you’re not religious you could mediate on it, or whatever floats your boat, and they will probably call you back IF it’s a female voice that leaves the message.

What about the City of Baltimore licenses? Do you provide resident agent services for these?

Yes, we can sign as your resident agent on City of Baltimore licenses. After you have signed up for our resident agent services, just email us the form you are trying to file. We will fill out our part, sign it, and email it right back to you. If the department you’re trying to register with requires original signatures, we will mail it back to you.

My home state doesn’t require a resident agent. Why do I need one in Maryland?

You probably have a registered agent in your home state. Other states call a resident agent a “registered agent”. Registered agent and resident agents are the same thing.
